IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith Anne
Chapman
November 7, 1941 – June 3, 2024
Judith Anne Chapman, age 82, a resident of Warrenville, Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024. She was born November 7, 1941 in Paris, Illinois to Walter & Virginia (Wooley) Gumm.
Judith met Harlen Chapman, had their first date at the Newport Antique Auto Hill Climb in October and after a brief courtship were married on February 14, 1965. Heading back to the "Old Car Hill Climb" was something they did for many years.
Judy worked at Motorola and Zenith prior to starting a family with Harlen. Judy volunteered at the Warrenville Public Library one evening a week as a way of giving back to the community. In 1986, once her children were older, Judy was hired on at the library as a "page" and worked there for 28 years. In addition to her love of books, Judy enjoyed working with children. She began working at Community Unit School District 200 as a "lunch lady" and in the Before and After School Care Program both as an aide and in a supervisory role. During her 20+ years of service, Judy positively impacted many children's lives throughout Warrenville and Wheaton at the following Elementary schools: Holmes, Bower, Johnson, and Wiesbrook.
Judy enjoyed bowling with a church bowling league and being a passenger on Harlen's motorcycle. They were members of multiple motorcycle associations/groups and over the years traveled many miles winding across the country on adventures together. Judy was an avid reader, loved word search puzzles, and couldn't watch enough "murder" shows on TV. She also enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Cubs.
She is survived by her children: Monica (Luis Carlos) Salinas, Linda (Eric) Hosteland & William Chapman; her grandchildren: Johnathan (Carissa) Salinas & Raquel Salinas; and her great-granddaughter Nova Sills. She is also survived by her siblings: Walter W. "Bill" Gumm, Jacqueline "Sue" Gumm, and George Gumm as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harlen, infant twin brother David, and
her sister Jennifer (Robert) Pendley.
Services will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
