Joyce J. Olsen, age 83, a longtime resident of Wheaton, IL, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 7, 2020. She was born January 6, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to Kenneth and Violet Warren.

Joyce was raised in Berwyn and moved to Wheaton when she was a freshman in High School. She graduated from Wheaton Community High School in 1954.  She married Sheldon Olsen on February 8, 1964.  They raised three children in Wheaton at their home on President St. where they have lived since 1964.  She was proud of turning their tiny home into the house of their dreams.

She worked at the Wheaton Public Library and was  a longtime member of Wheaton Bible Church. Her family was most important to her and she was a hands-on mother who participated in all her children's activities and sports.

She was an expert seamstress and loved to sew. She made clothing for her children, curtains and other textiles.  She enjoyed cooking.  In their early years of marriage, she and Sheldon enjoyed bowling on a church league and enjoyed bowling with their friends to this day. They also participated in square dancing and were members of the Circle Eight Square Dance Club for 20 years.  They then participated in Round Dancing for another 20 years. They developed many lasting friendships with many wonderful couples through dancing.

She is survived by her husband, Sheldon Olsen, three children, Karen Olsen of Wheaton, Holly (Joe Lesch) Handley of Wheaton, and Scott Olsen of Wheaton, her grandchildren, Kyle (Jen) Handley, Trenton Dowling, Jessica Dowling, and Hannah Olsen and one great-grandchild, Declynn Handley.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Taylor Handley and her parents.

A celebration of her life will be held in the future.
