Joy L. Sandlund, age 90, a resident of St. Charles, passed away January 16, 2021. She was born May 29, 1930 to George and Orpha Wardle.

Joy was born and raised in Chicago. She attended University of Illinois where she met the love of her life, Howard Sandlund. They were married on June 13, 1953. Joy worked as an elementary teacher, bookstore manager and real estate agent but is most known for being the loving mom of seven children. Her seven kids will certainly miss their number one cheerleader.

Joy was an avid learner and a creative artist. She especially enjoyed drawing with pencil, knitting and reading anything that would deepen her love for Jesus. She sought to love Jesus beautifully. After securing higher education for her children, Joy headed to Wheaton Graduate School herself and graduated with a Master's degree at the age of 67, finding her sanctuary in studying theology and church history. She gave much of her time serving others at the Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church and College Church.

Joy is survived by her children Suzanne (Rich) Olson, Lynne (Larry) Tellschow, Laurie (Doug) Hedlund, Tom Sandlund, Kathy Woods, Debra (Greg) Stipe and Gary (Lisa) Sandlund; her 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and her brother George D. Wardle.

A visitation at 1:00 pm and a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm will be held on Tuesday, January 19 at College Church in Wheaton. Interment to follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
