Obituary

Joy V. Castic, age 78, a resident of Schaumburg, and formerly of Elk Grove Village, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 9, at home. She was born February 8, 1935 in Chicago to Earl and Muriel Vanda.

Joy grew up in Chicago during the depression. She graduated from Schurz High School and attended Wright College where she met William Castic. They were married on May 18, 1957. After raising three children she went back to school and graduated from Elmhust College in 1975 and then earned a Master's degree from Rosary College. Joy went into teaching because she wanted to make a difference. She taught and served as the librarian at Glencrest Jr. High School in Glen Ellyn from 1977 until 1992. She retired after being disabled in a car accident that took the life of her husband.

Joy was a member of Elk Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her childhood friends, entertaining, playing board games, a good joke and watching Jeopardy. She loved to travel and loved the arts and was a member of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Joy is survived by three children, William (Deborah) Castic of Hoffman Estates, Laurel (Scott Fridrich) Gisch of Schaumburg and Jeffery (Dawn) Castic of Elk Grove Village, six grandchildren, Ken, William, Kimberly, Hannah, John and Joshua, three great-grandchildren, Kether, Vanda and William, her sister-in-law Pauline Mary (Richard) Castic and brother-in-law, Jerry Castic. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

A visitation will be held May 18, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Elk Grove Baptist Church, 801 Beisner Road, in Elk Grove Village, IL where a funeral service will follow at 6:00 P.M. with Rev. Curt Hansen officiating. Interment will be held privately at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove.
