Josephine L.
Johnson
July 30, 1932 – April 5, 2021
Josephine L. ("Jo") Johnson, age 88, a resident of Belmont Village in Carol Stream, IL, died April 5, 2021. She was born July 30, 1932 in Richmond, Indiana to Joseph & Edna Moore.
She is survived by her five children, Debbie Johnson, Pam (Dave) Burbrink, Melinda Johnson, Jana (Mark) Blaschak and John (Kelly) Johnson; nine grandchildren, Brian (Carolyn) and Brad (Scott), Cindy and Mark, Nick, Brittany and Karly (Alex), and Jacob and Jeremy; two great-grandchildren, Tobin William & Josephine Abbey Burbrink; and many nieces and nephews.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William ("Bill"); her daughter Terri Sanderson; her siblings William, Paul, Eunav, Lucille, Rosalee, Margaret & Donald; and her parents.
Jo was the matriarch of the Johnson family, raising five girls and one (belated) boy. She was the glue that held a growing family together through job transfers to several Midwest cities. The family eventually settled in Naperville, Illinois, where Jo was active in charitable causes such as feeding the underprivileged at food pantries, volunteering at Edward Hospital, and serving as a Eucharistic minister at various parishes. Jo always remembered her humble roots, never took for granted her good fortune, and routinely put others before herself.
Jo and Bill retired to Sun City, Florida, where she continued her volunteer service with the Prince of Peace Catholic Church – ensuring that elderly parishioners received the Eucharist and the Last Rites. Jo valued the many friendships forged over bridge, euchre, and Al-Anon meetings. Jo and Bill returned each summer to spend time at the campground with their cherished friends – Harry and Kay Newton.
Jo spent her twilight years as a resident of Belmont Village in Carol Stream, Illinois, where she served on the Welcoming Committee and developed enduring friendships.
Throughout life, Jo had two constants – faith and family. She read her prayer books daily and ever strived to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jo also poured her heart into her family and loved nothing more than spending time with Bill, her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jo was adored by all – especially her family.
