Reverend Joseph Tai, age 90, a resident of Roselle, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.  He was born October 7, 1934 in Taiwan.

Growing up in a small town (Zhudong) in Taiwan, his life was profoundly impacted and impacted by Christian missionaries and having his first encounter with Jesus at the age of 18 during a retreat.

While studying to be a chemical engineer, because of family finances, Joseph could not continue after his first year. He was able though, to use some of the knowledge gained during that time and began a career at a glass factory in the city of Hsinchu to help support his family. Through a health challenge with supernatural healing results through prayer, the Gospel of Jesus was shared with Joseph setting him on the path to the calling of becoming a pastor. Graduating from Taiwan Baptist Theological Seminary, Joseph went on to serve at Grace Baptist Church in Taipei.

During this time, Joseph was married to Ruth and began his family. While serving in Taipei, he began to receive the call to minister in the United States, leaving in 1973 for further education (Southwest Baptist University and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary) and preparing for his now growing family (wife and three boys) to join him in the States (1975).

From Missouri, Joseph and family made their way to Illinois, establishing themselves in the Chicago suburbs in 1979 and began to minister for the next 46 years from this base. He touched the lives of many locally and internationally being known as a pastor who always blessed and walked in unwavering faith.

Joseph is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Ruth; his sons David (Tzu-Ann), Li-En (Amy) & Li-Shang (Hyeon Jong); his grandchildren Christianna, Sidney, Ethan, Jubilee, Chloe, Christian, Logan, Rhema, Dylan & Charis

A visitation will be held at Christian Assembly of Suburban Chicago, 23W420 St Charles Rd., Carol Stream, IL 60188 on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 12:00 Noon until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Chapel Hill Gardens West, 17W201 Roosevelt Rd, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181 (please meet in the cemetery parking lot).
