The Reverend Joseph M. Stowell, II, 96, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, died Saturday, June 23, at home. He was born on January 28, 1911 in Colon, Michigan.
As a minister, he pastored churches in Michigan, Indiana, New York and New Jersey. He served as the National Representative for the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches and also served on the boards of ABWE, Baptist Bible College, Clarks Summit, PA and Baptist Mid-Missions. As a graduate of Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, his distinguished service to the church was recognized in his selection as Alumnus of the Year and by Wheaton's presentation to him of an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree. Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio also recongnized his distinguished service by honoring him with a Doctor of Humanities degree. His commitment to the gospel and the church led him to minister on every continent in support of missionaries and national churches. A sought after Bible teacher and Conference speaker, he has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions that mak his faithful service to his Lord.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Corabelle, his daughters, Hannah (Clifton) Jensen of Hampton, TN and Margaret (R. William) Wheeler of Cedarville, OH and his son, Joseph M. (Martha Bennett) Stowell III of South Elgin, fourteen grandchildren and twentyfive great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jospeh M. and Gertrude Faxon Stowell as well as a sister, Ruth Elizabeth Stowell.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Windsor Park Manor, Windsor Park Dr. at North Ave., (just west of Gary Ave.) in Carol Stream.
Interment will be held on Tuesday, June 26 at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon, Michigan.
