Obituary

Joseph A. Fortman, 93, formerly of Winfield, died Monday, June 14 at the Central Du Page Hospital. He was born in Wheaton on September 21, 1916.

Until moving to Florida in 1983, he had been a life long resident of Du Page County, and for 30 years lived in Winfield. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Joe was born on the family farm in Wheaton, where he farmed until he married Betty Jean Smith in 1948. He worked as a custodian in Wheaton for many years. He enjoyed his retirement in Palmetto, Florida until returning to Winfield in 2007.

Mr. Fortman is survived by five children, Cora (Paul) Komm of TN, Sherry (Robert) Cliff of Wheaton, Terry Fortman of Winfield, Denise (Al) Osier of Wisconsin, and David (Tanya) Fortman of Carol Stream, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Evelyn Cosefelt of Lisle and Mae Damer of Carol Stream.

A mass will take place on Thursday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 0S233 Church St., Winfield. Friends may visit with the family from 10 to 11 a.m at church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
