IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jose M.
De Valdivielso
October 4, 1937 – June 6, 2023
Jose M. De Valdivielso, age 85, a resident of Wheaton, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. He was born on October 4, 1937, in Matanzas, Cuba.
Jose came to the United States from Cuba in pursuit of education as tensions were rising prior to the Cuban Revolution. Shortly after, he found himself alone with few ties to his family in Cuba. He had little to no money, yet he found a way to continue his education and became an American citizen. However, his plans changed when he met a beautiful young woman that changed the course of his life while he was attending Wheaton College. He decided to stay in Wheaton and have a family with her. He began working at General Mills in West Chicago, where he eventually retired after 43 years of service. Most evenings after work, he would paint. Over time, his true focus became abstract paintings and portraits.
His family meant everything to him. He was most notably known for being undeniably selfless and forgiving toward anyone who crossed paths with him. He consistently demonstrated this throughout the course of his life. He leaves us with the perfect example of how to be a father, a grandfather, and a loving husband, who always put his family first and prepared us to face life's challenges by thinking of what he would do.
He is survived by his wife, Blanca; his four sons: Edwin (Blanca), David, Michael (Debra), and Victor; his 14 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and his siblings Vicente Gonzalez, Domingo (Celia) De Valdivielso & Fortuna (the late Crescencio) Rondon.
He was preceded in death by his twin the late Laura L. Martinez De Valdivielso and his sister Maria Josefina De Valdivielso
