IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jonathan Kirk
Wylie
April 21, 1944 – November 28, 2024
Jonathan Kirk Wylie (April 21, 1944-November 28, 2024) was a committed Christian, devoted father of three and grandfather of four. He fought for difficult causes, such as oppressed and marginalized Christians and others in the Holy Land.
Jon was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he lived until college. He attended Michigan State University, where he met his future wife, and graduated in 1966. He then attended Columbia University in New York, earning his Masters of Business Administration in 1968. After school, he served in the United States Army in Washington, D.C. and in Korea before his honorable discharge in 1970. He and Monica then moved to the Chicago area, where they lived until 1991 and returned in 2008.
Jon had a keen interest in history, in particular Civil War and World War II. He could discuss the details of key battles of both endlessly, and read about them constantly. This interest stemmed from his own service in the Army, and his father's service in World War II. He was a fervent fan of Michigan State athletics and of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
Marketing and business had also always been part of Jon's life. He worked for many years at Campbell Mithun Esty, an advertising agency in Chicago, and later worked as an executive at grocery chains in California.
At his death Jon was a 16-year member of First Presbyterian Wheaton, where he was an active member of the Men's Group.
In death Jon was preceded by his parents, Ruth and Joseph Wylie, his sister, Ellen Donnelly, and his wife Monica. He is survived by his children Phyllis, Joseph and David Kirk, and his grandchildren Hannah, Alan, Madeleine and Kenneth.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, 715 N.
