Obituary
John E. Roberts, age 93, a resident of Des Plaines for over 50 years, died Monday, September 18, in Wheaton. He was born on May 22, 1913 in Chicago to John and Ann Roberts.
John was a long time employee of the Chicago Board of Education. He served in WWII and the Naval Reserve as a Lt. Commander. He taught at Tilden and Lane Technical High School before joining the Board's Central Office in 1962 where he worked on new and innovative programs for high school dropouts. He retired in 1974 as Director of the Urban Youth Program.
He is survived by his son, Dr. John Roberts of Springfield, IL and his daughter, Peggy (Richard) Carlson of Wheaton and four grandchildren, Claire (Michael) Fitzpatrick, Meghan Roberts, Erin Carlson, and Tara Carlson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 1995, and his parents.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 23, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Petronille Church 420 Glenwood Ave., Glen Ellyn. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be held privately.
