John Orme, Th.D., age 70, a resident of Glendale Heights, was born on October 7, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He died Sunday, February 24, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL.
John served as a missionary in Central America with his family for 14 years and then in the pastorate in the U.S. for 11 years. Recently he finished 16 years (1990-2006) as the executive director of the IFMA (Interdenominational Foreign Mission Association of North America), a mission association of nearly 100 agencies. He was a graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University and Dallas Theological Seminary from which he received the Th.M. and Th.D. degrees. He served as adjunct professor at Wheaton Graduate School and Moody Graduate School and taught in various venues at College Church in Wheaton. He has traveled, spoken and taught in forty-five countries.
John is survived by Janet, his wife; two daughters, Lisa (Paul) Gazan of New York, and Laura (Ron) Froeschke of Batavia, Illinois; and seven grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28, from 6:00 P.M. until the time of a funeral service at 7:00 P.M. at College Church in Wheaton, 332 E. Seminary Ave., in the main sanctuary of the church. Interment is private at Wheaton Cemetery.
