IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John M.
Morrison
March 17, 1938 – April 23, 2024
In loving memory of John M. Morrison, who went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family, at his home at Windsor Park, Carol Stream, IL. He was 86 years old.
Born on March 17, 1938, in the heartland of Hays, Kansas, to Lloyd and Greta Morrison, John's life was a testament to integrity, devotion, and the enduring power of love.
Raised in the close-knit community of Colby, Kansas, John's passion for golf blossomed under the tutelage of his mother, who served as the golf coach. His talent on the green led him to excel on the high school golf team and later at Washburn University in Topeka, where he also served his country in the United States National Guard. It was during his college years that he met the love of his life, Judith Shields, whom he married on June 4, 1960.
John's professional journey began at Sears, where his dedication and work ethic laid the foundation for a career spanning over three decades. From his early days in the collections department to his pivotal role in the creation of communication systems at the iconic Sears Tower, John's impact was felt far and wide. His leadership at Advantis and later in the launch of Prodigy showcased his innovative spirit and unwavering commitment to excellence. Even after retiring from Sears, John's entrepreneurial drive led him to co-found Cornerstone Financial Group alongside his son, Mark.
Yet, amidst his professional achievements, John's heart belonged to the game of golf. His prowess on the green afforded him memorable experiences, from playing alongside legends like Arnold Palmer and James Garner in the Hawaii Pro-am Open to representing his team in a world tournament in Scotland, where they achieved an impressive 4th place.
John's legacy of leadership extended beyond the boardroom and fairway, as he devoted himself to serving his communities with passion and dedication. Whether as "The Mayor of Windsor" in his beloved Windsor Park or as an elder at the Village Church in Barrington and later an active member of Wheaton Bible Church, John's kindness, wisdom, and faith enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Judy, three sons, Stephen Morrison, David Morrison, and Mark (Brenda) Morrison, eight grandchildren, Troy, Kelly, Brett, Shannon, Shane, Ian, Nathalie, and Jamarion, two great-grandchildren, Mary and Zebulun and his sister, Ann Commerford. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, James Morrison.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave, West Chicago, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. A livestream of the service will be available here:
