Dr. John P. Mitchell, age 72, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died Sunday, January 25, at home surrounded by family. He was born July 6, 1936 in Chicago, IL.
John was a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago. He then served in the US Army as a lieutenant. After his service in the Army he earned a PhD at Loyola University in Chicago, IL. He worked until his retirement at Chicago Reed Mental Health Center.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, June; his four children, James (Kristina) of Roselle, IL, Chris (Mary Beth) of Elgin, IL, Jason (Leanne) of Wheaton, Melissa (Chad) Johnson of Wheaton; nine grandchildren; Carrie, Sam, Sarah, Ellen, Ryan, Ella, Kelly, Emily and Ian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Mitchell.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 27, from 3-9 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, where prayers will be said at 9:15 A.M. on Wednesday, January 28. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 0S233 Church St. in Winfield. Interment will be private at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
