John Joseph Mercier, age 70, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025.  He was born February 18, 1955 in Chicago, IL to Elmer & Margaret Mercier.

John worked at Victory Packaging for over 30 years as a truck driver then as a warehouse manager. He was passionate about all things with nature. He loved to ice fish, go hunting, even fishing at the pond in his backyard. He enjoyed traveling. Going on cruises, visiting family. Watching sunsets and listening to music. He loved to watch all the different outdoor shows. He would often tell us about them. His true passion was cooking, and also grilling. He would grill all year round. We all loved when he made his chicken and dumpling soup also, his famous macaroni and cheese. He loved to watch all the cooking and travel shows. He was really excited to share with Jenny all the local Kansas City BBQ places. John enjoyed spending time with his family, hosting holiday get-togethers. He was a wonderful father to Jenny & Joe, but most of all, he really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow up.

He is survived by his long-time companion Karen Clarkson; his children Joseph (Laura Arena) Mercier & Jennifer (Anthony, III) Holovnia; his grandchildren Madalyn & AJ Holovnia IV; his siblings Art (Diana) Mercier, Steve (Angel) Mercier, Valerie (Randy) Kreuscher, Marilyn (the late Mickey) Rein & Cindy (Tim) Lewis; and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife Judy.

A visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL.
