John E. Kallal, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Chicago on April 13, 1940, to Dr. Thomas E. and Mildred C. Kallal.

John grew up in the Austin Blvd. neighborhood of Cicero, IL, during his grade school (St. Francis of Rome, Cicero) and high school years (Fenwick, Oak Park). He was a scholar, obtaining degrees in the medical sciences.

John spent his early professional years as an associate professor teaching sciences at the Orange County (NY) Community College followed by the Malcolm X Chicago City College, before becoming Professor of Anatomy & Physiology at the Chicago Medical School, Roselyn Franklin School of Medicine. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching and working with his students, throwing a highly attended end-of-the-year party each year.

He transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry as Director of Scientific & Regulatory drug development for 28 years until he retired in 2008. John and his wife, Faye, then returned to Winfield, IL, to live close to their children and grandchildren.

John's friendships were very important to him. He enjoyed over 60 years of friendship with his grade school, high school, and college friends. He was a founding member of the "Squires" group of friends in Libertyville, IL. Most recently, he developed a close group of friends at the Wolfhound Cigar Lounge in Wheaton and enjoyed his time in their book club.  Any of his friends, from any of his social groups, will tell you he was always an educator at heart.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Faye Jordan Kallal. He leaves behind his daughter Lynn (Bryan Kadel) and his son John C. (Laurie Benda). He also is survived by granddaughter Jana Kadel and grandsons Jack Kallal and Andrew Kadel. John loved and kept a very close relationship with his two brothers, Thomas J. (Helen) and William T. (Roberta) Kallal, along with a niece and many nephews.

A visitation will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187 where a funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.
