John R. Gravee, age 82, a resident of Huntley, IL and formerly of Crystal Lake, IL, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at home. He was born March 9, 1935 in Chicago to Knut and Bertha Gravee.
His early childhood was spent in Sweden and he returned to Chicago with Swedish being his first language. He graduated from Lane Technical High School, attended the University of Illinois and graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Known as "Rollie" to many friends, he met Roberta "Bobbie" Aronson in the youth group at Northwest Baptist Church and they were married on September 3, 1955.
He made his career in banking, retiring in 2014. He came to know the Lord at summer camp at a young age and his faith remained the center of his life. He was always active in church, using his God given gifts as a youth leader, Bible study leader and serving on many building and financial committees. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf and he loved sports, especially the Chicago Cubs. He spent many summers at Miner Lake in Allegan, MI enjoying time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Gravee, two daughters: Diane (David) Brown of Lebanon, PA, and Cindy (Ted) Niedbalec of Algonquin, IL. Also seven grandchildren: Sarah (Seth) Barker, David (Susanna) Brown, Rebekah (Lloyd) Hoover, Jonathan Brown, Lucas (Rachel) Niedbalec, Emily Niedbalec and Derek Niedbalec, and five great-grandchildren; Tirzah, Isaac, Elliott, Lucy and David. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at
