Obituary

With great sadness the family of John Allan Dinkel announce his passing on July 4, 2023.

John, 86, was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 14, 1937 to Jack and Ruth Dinkel. Shortly after, his family moved to New Orleans, LA where he grew up. He attended Izadore Newman High School graduating in 1955. John earned his degree from Alabama Polytechnic University, now known as Auburn University. He moved to Chicago where he earned his Masters Degree at Northwestern University and pursued a career in electrical engineering at Fermilab. He met his wife Marilyn at a square dance and they married on June 29, 1963. They raised a family in Oak Brook, IL. In 1971, he built a cottage in Iron River, MI where he enjoyed spending summers with family and sailing. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling the world and later moved to Windsor Park Retirement Community in Carol Stream, IL.

John was a volunteer fireman for over 35 years serving Clarendon Hills, Oak Brook and helped establish Fermilab's Fire Department. John loved and served the Lord. He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, Feed my Starving Children, and enjoyed many mission trips including Mountain T.O.P, TN. John enjoyed woodworking, was an avid beekeeper and enjoyed model railroading. A timeshare in Scottsdale, AZ was a second home for the past 20 years where he enjoyed spending time with family.

John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn. He is survived by his children Brian (Kathy) Dinkel, Cynthia (Keith) Bac, and granddaughters Ashley and Nicole Bac.

A private family interment will be held in August.
