John R. Ahnert, age 84, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, and formerly of Elmhurst, passed away Tuesday morning, September 16th. He was born November 3, 1929 in Geneseo, IL.

He was a gentle soul with a warm heart. Amongst his many interests he loved music, books, the outdoors and spending time with family. He was a gifted classical pianist and piano teacher. As a social worker for many years he dedicated himself to helping others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his sons, David (Dorie) Crepps-Ahnert, and Charles (Alejandra) Ahnert; his grandchildren, Adam, Holly, Andrew, Sam and Griff; his brother, Richard (Ruth) Ahnert; and his son-in-law, Michael Aldrich.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Ahnert (nee Troester); and his daughter, Margaret Aldrich.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N Main St, in Wheaton, IL. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Windsor Park, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, IL 60188. Interment will be private.
