Joanne Mary Swartz went to be with Jesus in her heavenly home January 3, 2025 at the age of 93.  She was surrounded by her 4 adult children, Eric, Diane, Craig and Paula.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Jack Lee Swartz.  Also preceding her in death were her father, William Prause, her mother Mary Shepherd, and her sister Linda Diane, along with many precious aunts, uncles and other loved ones. She is survived by her four children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, along with one sister, Vicki.

Joanne was a nurse practitioner and worked at several hospitals, Wheaton Medical Clinic and then her career culminated as the Director of the Wheaton College Health Center.  In that capacity, she provided exemplary leadership overseeing the care of thousands of college students, including many of the student athletes who were under her husband's tutelage as a coach and administrator at the same college.

Joanne loved her Irish heritage and enjoyed serving in ways both seen and unseen. She was a member of the missionary furlough home board, provided laundry service for local shelters and was a Stephen's Minister, providing countless hours of support to those in need of a listening ear.  She and Jack were part of what affectionately became know as the Potluck Group at the Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church.  This group of couples (and eventually all of their children) enjoyed much love, laughter and friendship (along with great food) over the years.

Joanne had the gift of bringing joy, kindness and laughter, along with a very keen wit to every situation.  She was blessed with a loving marriage and is now reunited with her dearly missed Jack.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187. The service will be livestreamed through this link: Memorial Service for Joanne Swartz . Burial will be private at Wheaton Cemetery.
