Obituary

In loving memory of Joanna Lou Scheidt, who peacefully passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family at home in West Chicago. She was 89 years old.

Born on December 26, 1934, in Columbus, Indiana, to Walter and Ethel Behrman, Joanna's life journey was rooted in love, family, and unwavering faith.

Raised on a farm in White Creek, Indiana, Joanna's childhood was imbued with the values of hard work, perseverance, and an enduring sense of community. Her education at Columbus High School laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and growth.

It was at Arvin Industries where Joanna's path intersected with that of her beloved Wayne Scheidt, a meeting that would blossom into a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion. Following Wayne's service in the army during the Korean War, they exchanged vows on June 17, 1956, embarking on a journey of shared dreams and cherished memories.

As the proud parents of four sons, Joanna and Wayne's home was always filled with faith, love, laughter, and the joy of family. Their move to Wheaton in 1972 marked the beginning of a new chapter, where they continued to nurture their growing family and forge lasting friendships within the community.

A pillar of strength and love, Joanna's devotion to her family was unparalleled. She delighted in attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, cheering them on with unwavering support and pride. Her warm embrace and loving presence made every gathering a cherished memory, a testament to her boundless love and generosity of spirit.

Joanna and Wayne shared a love for travel, exploring the world together. She was also an avid reader and skilled cook, often hosting family gatherings.

A devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church of Wheaton for over 50 years, Joanna found friendship and community within the JOY Group, where she shared fellowship and friendship with her fellow parishioners.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband Wayne Scheidt, her sons, Mark (Laura) Scheidt of Glendale Heights, Brian Scheidt of Rolling Meadows, Steven (Darla) Scheidt of Darien, and Greg (Sheri) Scheidt of Wheaton, seven grandchildren, Eric (Nichi) Scheidt, Scott (Anna) Scheidt, Christine (Nick) Sheetz, Amber (Aaron) Snoeyink, Brittany (Mitchell) Schwarzkopf, Alex Scheidt and Kelsey Scheidt, ten great-grandchildren, Ethan, Maylee, Ruby, Della, Leah, Josiah, Gabriela, Landon, Beckham, and Levi and one nephew, Don (Nancy) Otte.
