JoAnn Rae McLellan (nee Beutjer), age 79, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois, died peacefully on October 20, 2009 at her home in Wheaton after a brief, but valiant battle with cancer. She was born March 8, 1930 in Elmhurst, IL, and was proud of living in DuPage County for most of her life. JoAnn graduated from Wheaton Community High School in 1948.
During her time working to support her family along with her loving husband, Bill, Mrs. McLellan worked many jobs as a bookkeeper in the Wheaton area, retiring in 2000 from the City of Wheaton, Finance Department, after nearly 20 years of dedicated service. She was proud to serve the residents of Wheaton for so many years and enjoyed meeting the ever growing community during her career. After retirement, JoAnn and Bill fulfilled a life long dream to start an antique business. "Treasured Memories" was founded and contributed to a new sense of purpose in retirement and years of joy hunting for antique treasures. She was a member of the Morton Arboretum, and was previously a member of Wheaton Evangelical Free Church for many years. She loved gardens, flowers, antiques, garage sales, collectibles and all things patriotic. She was an avid Chicago sports fan, especially her beloved White Sox. She loved to travel to historic locations and to spend time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Mrs. McLellan was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Ruth Beutjer (nee Nachtigall), and brothers Harold and William Beutjer. JoAnn will be forever remembered by her devoted husband of 56 years, William McLellan, beloved daughter Susan McLellan of Phoenix, AZ; son Scott and wife Christine of Hollywood, MD with grandchildren Sean & Bridget; son Mark and wife Sharon of Gainesville, VA and grandsons Ian & Ethan. She is also survived by her Aunt Gladys Servatius and husband Bill of Woodstock, IL; sister Lynn Altergott and husband Ron, and sister-in-law Irene Beutjer-Gilliam and husband Dewayne all of Athens, AL; sister-in-law Denise Beutjer of Wheaton; a large extended family and countless friends. Visitation will be held at the Hultgren Funeral Home 3-9 pm October 30th. Funeral Services will be held at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church at 10 am, Saturday, October 31st with Rev. Jack Schrader officiating. Interment will follow the service at Wheaton Cemetery.
