Joan Steinberg, age 93, a longtime resident of Winfield and Wheaton IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at Northwestern Hospital (Central DuPage Hospital) in Winfield, Illinois. She and her twin sister, Elizabeth "Betty", were born on August 27, 1926 in New York, New York to Morris and Elizabeth Ullman.
Joan graduated from Bayside High School and later met Milton Arthur Steinberg on a blind date, fell in love and they married on April 28, 1946 in Bayside, New York while Milton served our country during WWII. They began their married life and lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where three children were born. In 1961 they relocated to Wheaton, IL and raised their family. They were very active in PTA and were PTA Presidents. They were involved in community events and won a holiday house lighting contest in Wheaton. They enjoyed bowling, card club, activities with all their friends and coordinating annual sleigh rides. Joan volunteered for many years in the gift shop at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. She had a passion for animals and was generous to many charities and cherished her dog, Bella. Most of all Joan enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Dr. Rodney) Covenah, daughters-in-law Christine Steinberg and Gladys Steinberg, grandchildren, Eric Steinberg, Aaron (Valary) Steinberg, Amanda (Clinton) Perrot and Robert Steinberg, Jr., great-grandchildren, Rachel and Hannah Steinberg, Michigan and Peter Steinberg, and Stellan Perrot; sister-in-law, Doris Christensen, nieces, Debbie (Rob) Pampuch, Peggy (Lang) Moss, Terry McCracken, Ellen (Jeff) Lewandowski, and Betsy (Paul) Schultz, nephews, Dan (Susie) Boyce, and Gerard (Janet) Boyce.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Arthur Steinberg, her sons Ronald Robert Steinberg and Robert William Steinberg, her sister, Elizabeth Florence (William) Boyce, and sister-in-law Ruth (Joseph) Gersch.
Services and interment will be held privately.
Joan consistently donated to No Kill Animal Shelters. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for your help to keep her legacy continuous with memorial donations to your choice of a No Kill Animal Shelter.
