Joan B.
Rogers
January 5, 1931 – May 15, 2022
Where does one begin to share the life of one so blessed? Joan (pronounced Jo-Ann) lived 91 years before passing on May 15th, 2022. She was born into the loving family of Elvin and Laurine Byers, of Oak Park, in the winter of 1931. She was the baby sister to Betty and Barbara and loved every opportunity to cajole and harass her older siblings. Family was important to her as she grew and treasured the time she was able to spend with Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, spending lots of time in Buda where her parents grew up.
In college, Joan met and married the love of her life, Glenn Rogers and after some travel (Glenn was in the service) they settled in Wheaton to raise their children Scott, Larry, and Kathy.
Joan's faith in Christ was the center of her life; it led her as she and Glenn were founding members of Aldersgate UMC in Wheaton, as they served in the Lay Witness Mission movement, and as they served as officers in CFO International.
Joan enjoyed traveling; whether traveling to the west with her parents, or the summers she spent camping across the country so her children could see the beauty and experience the history of our nation, or travelling to Israel and Ireland (in the 70''s when they were both Hot Spots), or visiting sisters, nieces and nephews around the country, or when she combined her faith and travel while crossing the Globe with CFO, she always wanted to travel. In her later days, she could only travel vicariously; hearing about her children's or Grandchildren's exploits or traveling in her mind's eye in books.
Joan loved to read. A passion she shared with family and friends as they would check-in on where each other was in whichever series of books she was reading at the time. She enjoyed a variety of authors and subjects, but mysteries and horses seemed to always draw her attention. Her love of reading led her to a career choice, librarian; first with the Wheaton Public Library and then in Madison Elementary School.
Joan was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Glenn Rogers, sister and brother-in-law Betty & Warner Unbehan. brother-in-law Alex Feldvebel, brother-in-law Donald Myers, nieces and nephew. She is survived by her sister Barbara Feldvebel, Sister-in-law Carolann Myers, her children Scott (Mary) Rogers of Oak Park, Larry (Tammie) Rogers of Lancaster, OH, and Kathy (Carl) Schreck of Glen Ellyn, her Grandchildren Cheri (Jim) Dozier, Brian (Michelle) Schreck, Melissa (Joe) Harris, Dr. Laura (Tom Bohn) Rogers, and Tristan (Kristi) Rogers, 9 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great-grandchildren.
