Joan
Luck
February 27, 1947 – March 4, 2020
On March 4, 2020, Joan Lynn Luck, devoted servant of Jesus Christ, entered her heavenly home at the age of 73.
Joan was born in Aurora, IL, on February 27, 1947, to Robert and Daisy Hilliard. She graduated from East Aurora High School in 1965 and received a diploma in Christian Education from Chicago's Moody Bible Institute in 1968. Following graduation, she put her Institute skills to work by teaching Bible in Chattanooga, TN, public schools. In 1971, Joan wed fellow Moody alumnus William Felix Luck. Together, they raised three children in Wheaton, IL.
Joan spent 30 years in food service, and for the last decade, she provided a friendly face and cheerful accommodation to thousands through her work at Panera Bread in Glen Ellyn, IL. Over the years, Joan was active with the organization FOCUS Ministries and also taught English to refugee women. She attended the Compass Church in Wheaton, where she had served as a deaconess.
Joan was a giver, a believer, a maker of her children's school lunches. She was a bearer of burdens, an encourager, a generator of discourse. Joan was a bespoke cardmaker. A birdwatcher. A gardener. A winker. A connoisseur of flavored coffees. She loved music and played the violin. Joan spoke often of Heaven and encountering her Maker at the end of her pilgrimage.
She is survived by her daughter Amy (Erik) Liljenberg, William Jr. (Denise Wilkerson), and Robert (Sara), as well as her six grandchildren: Ariana, Ayla, Daisy, Annaeli, Henry and Amiya. Joan was preceded in her death by her mother and father.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020, at 10:00 am at Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton, with the funeral service following at 11:00 am. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts made in her honor be sent to the Moody Bible Institute or The Morton Arboretum .
