IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan
Kaminsky
July 30, 1936 – January 8, 2025
Joan Kaminsky, age 88, born in Chicago; grew up at 45 E. 100th St. (where she and her dad would go to Red Robin at midnight for ice cream as a child when she could not sleep); 50 plus year resident of Wheaton, IL and recently of Burlington, WI, died Wednesday night, January 8 (Elvis' birthday) in Burlington. She was born July 30, 1936 in Chicago to Charles and Rose Horvath (always said her mom invented pizza)
Joan grew up in Chicago and attended Holy Rosary Slovak grade school and Fenger High school. In her 20s, she married Columbus Drexel Kaminsky (Jr.) and raised five children in Wheaton, Illinois in the house Drex was born in
Joan enjoyed baking. Many weddings for the relatives, Joan prepared the dessert table. She enjoyed sports; she was the loudest fan and kept busy attending her children's events; and if our team lost the referees heard about it. Joan was a Bulls fan, die hard White Sox fan (cried this season for them with the biggest losing record ever); Bears and, as she got older, a Blackhawks fan. Yes, all Chicago true to her heart. She loved sitting in the suites and could not wait for the dessert cart. Most of all, though, she loved spending time with her family and even said she loved all our horses, dogs and even cats.
Joan is survived by her four children, Jan (Richard) Quill of McHenry, IL, Kathy Kaminsky of Burlington, WI, Jeff (Cindy) Kaminsky of Wayne, NE, and Scott (Jody) Kaminsky of Lake Forest, IL; two grandchildren, Jennifer Malone and Michelle Schiffer; and five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn; Eli; Mason; Rylie and Wyatt; and two sisters Eleanor Dial and Evelyn Kroll. Joan was also very fond of her extended family Christian, Nathan and Sean who she thought of as her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Ernest Allan Kaminsky in 1980; her husband Drexel Kaminsky in 2017; and siblings, Rose (Dodo) Szabo, William (Willie) Horvath, Robert Horvath, Charles (Chuckie) Horvath and Delores (Dolly)Jurczyk
