Joan Holsted Hackett, age 87, a resident of Glen Ellyn, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Central DuPage Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on January 7, 1926 in Ongole, India to missionary parents, Ernest and Ethel Holsted.
Joan graduated from Wheaton College. She married Dr. Stuart C. Hackett on June 13, 1947. She raised the family while her husband pastored a church and then taught at several colleges.
She has been an active attender of Wheaton Evangelical Free Church and part of the Kupples Klass.
Her love of Jesus Christ was her passion and motivation in life. She generously supported indigenous missionaries.
She is survived by three children, David (Peggy) Hackett of Wheaton, Becky (David) Cottingham of Manchester, MA, and Rachel (Mark) Blanchard of Winfield, seven grandchildren, Stuart (Robyn), Arthur (Rachel), Lisa, Mia, Peter, Jordan and Jessica, and five great-grandchildren, Jude, Samuel, Molly, Mabel and Garrison, one sister, Virginia Scali and one brother, Paul Holsted.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart in 2012, her parents and a sister.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 10 from 10:00 to 11 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL. A private interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
