Joan Helen Copeland, nee Hansen, 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday April 13, 2018. A long time resident of Wheaton, Joan attended Wheaton Academy and Wheaton College. She also attended Wheaton Bible Church for nearly 60 years. She was preceded by Arthur, her husband of 66 years, brother Thomas and parents Royal and Helen Hansen.
We mourn the loss of our Mother but rejoice in the fact that her faith has turned to joy. What she leaves behind cannot be measured monetarily. We have been given the gift of feeling cared for, sacrificed for and loved. Her sense of humor is evident in all of her children.
She was an Optical Receptionist at the Wheaton Eye Clinic for 30 years. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing and cooking. There are many examples of her handiwork in quilts and blankets that were gifted to family and friends. Her beef stew, mac-and-cheese with hot dogs and baked goods will never be equaled.
Joan assisted Arthur on a trip to Niger where they helped build a hospital. She taught sewing to refugees on sewing machines that her husband refurbished.
Joan is survived by Mary Jo (Don) Adamis, Janine Irving, Gail (Mike) Wagers, Cathy (Russ) Frank, Karen (Kalevi) Kekkonen, Tim (Karen) Copeland, 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
