Jo Ann Selander, age 86, a resident of The Holmstad in Batavia, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021. She was born August 29, 1935 in Oak Park, Illinois to Edmund & Gertrude Powell.

She attended Wheaton Academy for highschool, and dropped out of Wheaton College to raise her family. Some years later, she returned to Wheaton College to finish a degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school, and was instrumental in starting Toddler's Campus preschool at First Baptist Church of Wheaton, and was its first Director. She then joined the staff of Christianity Today Inc., in time becoming a Vice President of the organization. She was a voracious reader and diligent student of the Scriptures. She also had an uncanny ability to know, three rooms away, when her kids were getting into the cookie jar!

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edwin; her children: Janet (Gary) Meyer, Tim (Aileen) & Tom (Sandra) Selander; her eight grandchildren & 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou Powell and her brother Edmund Powell, Jr.

A visitation will be held Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 1:00pm -3:00pm at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL, where a funeral service will be held at 3:00pm.
