Jo Ann Claire Haley, nee Neburka, age 83, a longtime resident of Wheaton, IL, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 24, 2017. She was born July 17, 1934 in Lowell, Indiana to William and Ruth Taylor Neburka.
Jo Ann grew up in Brookfield and LaGrange and graduated from Lyons Township High School. She graduated from the University of IL in 1956 where she met her husband, Charles Haley. They were married on June 7, 1958. She was a physical education teacher at York High School. As they moved due to Charles work and education, she continued to find teaching opportunities at the college level in Texas and Virginia. Later she completed a Master's Degree at Wheaton College while working there as an administrator at the Suzuki Program.
A lifelong learner and gifted teacher, she was passionate about teaching Women's Bible studies and ministering to children through starting Pioneer Clubs. She enjoyed music and played various instruments in bands, orchestras and church settings.
She found her greatest fulfillment as a follower of Jesus Christ and as a wife and mother, imparting her faith to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles W. Haley, four children, Dr. Ruth H. (Christopher) Barton of Wheaton, Beth C. (David) Lloyd of Wisconsin, Rev. Dr. J. Taylor (Cami) Haley of Wisconsin, and Rev. William R.L. (Tara) Haley of Virginia, twelve grandchildren, Charity (Kyle), Bethany (Ryan), Haley (Troy), John, William, Jessica, Chet, Hudson, Liam, Iona, Karis, and Maira, nine great-grandchildren. She is the sister of Betty Knobeloch and Jack Neburka.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, from 9:30-11 a.m. at College Church, Seminary and Washington St., Wheaton, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
