James "Jim" Davis, age 72, a resident of Carol Stream, IL, died on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born on June 21, 1942 in LaGrange, Georgia.
After graduating from Georgia Tech, he served in the Navy for 5 years in California where he met Freda, a Londoner who was working her way around the globe and who had stopped in San Francisco to save up money for a trip to Australia. As love would have it, she never made that trip. They were married in England on March 25, 1967. With a Ph.D. from Stanford University in Electrical Engineering, he worked for Bell Labs in Naperville. He loved his work, always delighting in the thrill of inventing and coming up with solutions for technical problems, a passion which resulted in ten patents through Bell Labs. After 30 years of credited service he joined TRA as a developer and instructor for training in the telecommunications industry, a role which he continued in until the day he died.
Jim was a dedicated servant of Jesus Christ, with whom he now stands. He devoted his life to the service of his family, his church and his community. In short, he loved God, he loved his wife, he loved his family, and he loved others. That is his legacy. He ministered to those around him as well as people around the globe in his generous support of missions, his involvement with International Student Fellowship Ministries, teaching the Newcomers Class at College Church for over 20 years, and sharing God's love with neighbors and friends.
His legacy is carried on by his wife, Freda; his three sons, Mark (wife Sue), Giles (wife Debbie) and Tim; his seven grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Esther, Micah, Nate, Bekah and Jacob; and his sister Joy.
