Jerry L. Thompson, age 89, a resident of Wheaton, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023.  He was born April 8, 1934 to Paul Dwight & Bernice Thompson.

Jerry grew up in Alliance Ohio and attended Kent State on a scholarships from the Ford Foundation. He went on to earn his masters degree in chemistry from Michigan State University. He pursued a career as a lubrication chemist with Ford Motor Company and BP/Amoco. He spent most of his career working on locomotive lubricants for railroads around the world. Jerry was a life long member of The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) & The American Society of Lubrication Engineers (ASLE). He received a patent for his work in the lubrication industry. He was an avid jogger, golfer, and loved to take long car trips with his family. He was a loving husband and a proud father to his three sons & grandfather to his two grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Virginia, nee Sheets; his children Mark (Amy), Erick and Keith Thompson; his grandchildren Miranda & Mac Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his brother Paul (the late Norma Jean) and his sister Virginia (the late George) Stanley.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn, 535 Forest Avenue, Glen Ellyn, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
