Jeanne Samper, age 90, a resident of Wheaton for 52 years, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 30, 1929.
She attended Indiana University, where she met her husband, Alfred, to whom she was married for 69 years.
Although certified to teach art, Jeanne used her art training instead to create artwork in a variety of media. She exhibited her metal sculpture for 20 years at area art shows. She also created alabaster sculpture, handmade paper, and acrylic and watercolor paintings. She took up wood turning at age 84.
Jeanne was an avid gardener and took great pride in her yard. From a very young age she was a skilled knitter creating countless afghans, pillows, scarves, and sweaters that adorn her family's homes and wardrobes.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Ebetsch (Donald) and Laura Samper, her grandchildren Brookes Ebetsch (Drew Sandler) and Graham Ebetsch (Melissa Trella), and great grandchildren Sabina and Soren Sandler and Beatrix Ebetsch.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, Illinois.
