Obituary

Jean G. "Jeannie" Erickson, age 78, departed this world on Sunday, April 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 13, 1945, in Chicago, Jean was the cherished daughter of Teale and Eva Garard. She radiated warmth and creativity throughout her community. With a selfless heart and an infectious sense of humor, she endeavored to bring joy to all those around her.

Following her graduation from the Wood Tobe-Coburn School of Fashion in New York City, Jean embarked on a vibrant career in fashion. Initially, she served as a buyer and modeled while working at Ben Franklin, where fate smiled upon her when she met her beloved husband, John. In the bustling world of fashion, her keen eye and flair for design blossomed, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. Yet, her path took a beautiful turn as she dedicated herself to nurturing her family, infusing every moment with her boundless love and care, particularly for her cherished daughters.

Jean's creative genius knew no bounds, as she adorned not only kid birthday parties and The Lane Elementary School but also their home during the holidays with whimsical decorations. Her artistic touch extended to infusing church gatherings with warmth and joy. Her crafting experiences brought laughter and smiles to all.

Her passion for spreading joy found expression not only in the Tot Time program she ran at Redeemer Lutheran Church but also in the life-lasting friendships she made there, friendships she cherished dearly. Toddlers and parents alike reveled in the magic of her crafts and activities during her daily classes. Her commitment to children extended beyond Tot Time, as she served as the Christian Education Director, further illuminating her dedication to nurturing the spiritual growth of those around her. As a friend to everyone she met, Jean's presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of belonging to all who crossed her path.

After twenty years of selfless service at the church, Jean retired, cherishing every precious moment with her beloved family. She leaves behind a legacy that transcends time, survived by her daughters, Kristin (Pierre) Vega and Lindsay (Virgil) Tegeler, who were deeply enriched by her love and guidance. Her treasured grandchildren, Marley Erickson, Lydia Tegeler, and Charles Tegeler, will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. She is also survived by her sister Nancy (Jim) Finney, a nephew, and extended family.

Jean was preceded in death by her mother Eva, father Teale, stepmother Marjorie, brother Tommy, and beloved husband of fifty years, John Wallace Erickson, whose memory she cherished dearly.

In honoring Jean's affinity for animals, memorial gifts may be directed to the Hinsdale Humane Society, a cause that held a special place in her heart.
