Jean A. Dusek

Jean A. Dusek, age 94, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026. She was born February 22, 1932 in Elgin, IL to George & Beulah Lueck.

Growing up in Elgin, Jean spent many hours at the YWCA, where her mother worked. She was a talented swimmer, diver, synchronized swimmer and dancer.

Enjoying athletics, she was the president of the Girls’ Athletic Association, cheerleader and city swimming and diving champion. She was the director of the YWCA Camp Tu-Endi-Wei for many years.

She graduated from Beloit College majoring in Biology with a minor in Physical Education. Then earned her masters degree in Modern Dance at Mills College in California. It was at this time she gave her life to Jesus Christ and lived to follow Him the rest of her life.

Jean and Wes were Elgin High School sweethearts. They married on August 22, 1956 and moved to Boulder, Colorado for one year. While there, Wes got his masters degree and Jean taught Physical Education in a local grade school. They moved to Wheaton where Wes got a teaching job at Wheaton Community High School. When their two children, Carla and Jeff were born, Jean became a stay at home mom. She was very active in their lives, especially with regards to schooling and sporting events. She very much enjoyed being a grandmother to Wes and Luuk. She loved them dearly, pouring out her heart in their daily lives and pointing them to the Lord.

Jean was known for her selfless love and care for people, especially people who could use her help. She had endless energy and a great love for people. She opened her heart and home to people needing a meal or a place to stay. She especially loved the Hmong people from Laos, who came to Wheaton after the Vietnam War. She helped numerous Hmong people settle into life in America, by teaching them basic skills like grocery shopping and how to use a stove. She would take them to doctor appointments, summer camp and school conferences. Surprisingly, she was able to communicate without ever learning a word of the Hmong language!

Jean loved kids! Working as a Sunday School teacher at College Church for 50 years, being a Pioneer Girl leader and helping in the nursery. She would pick up Hmong children to take them to church every Wednesday evening. She would fill the old Buick station wagon to the max. We think she might have had over 30 children in the car at one point!

Many people have wonderful memories of Jean. Her help and love have made a difference in their lives. She will be greatly missed! But we know she is in heaven because she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior - He was her hope throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Wes; her children Carla Dusek & Jeff (Margreet) Dusek; her grandsons Wes & Luuk Dusek. Jean is also survived by Bill (Chris) Goodyear who is a cherished member of her family. Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
