Janice E. (Stockburger) Shallenberg, age 101, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, following a fall over Thanksgiving weekend. She was born August 8, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to Harold and Idabelle Stockburger.

Janice's family moved to Elmwood Park in her teenage years.  She attended Wheaton College and was the oldest alum at the most recent homecoming.

Robert L. Shallenberg and Janice married in June of 1944 while he was teaching diesel engineering at Cornell University in New York during the war.

Janice was a full time mother during the childhood of their kids and played piano regularly at Wheaton Bible Church.  After her children became adults, Janice got a real estate brokers license and sold homes for many years.

Janice and Robert L. moved to Windsor Park Manor in 1989, occupying the same independent living residence there until 2022, when Janice moved to a newly built apartment in Grantham.

Robert L. Shallenberg preceded Janice in death in 2002 while in Florida, where they maintained a second residence for the winter months.
Janice is survived by their two children, Carolyn K. Appling and Robert H. Shallenberg; five grandchildren - Laura Hunt, Mark Shallenberg, Liana Shallenberg, Michael Shallenberg and Kendra Shallenberg; and seven great grandchildren -  Avery Hunt, Addison Hunt, Marley Shallenberg, Marvin Shallenberg, Cameron Goodwin, Lakeith Goodwin and Atlas Shallenberg.

Janice played piano at many events while at Windsor Park Manor, including this Thanksgiving, just a few days before her passing.

A Memorial Service will be held in Grantham Hall Assisted Living Lounge, Windsor Park Manor at 1:30pm on Friday, December 15.
