Janice W. Hazen, age 54, a resident of Naperville, died Friday, March 14, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born on October 10, 1953 in Wheaton to Irving W. and Ethel C. Woolf.
She was raised in Wheaton and graduated from Wheaton Central High School in 1971. She graduated from Drake University with a B.A. in Education in 1975 and earned a Masters Degree in Education from National-Louis University. She was a reading specialist at The Lane Elementary School in Hinsdale, IL. She also taught in Naperville, Woodridge and other elementary schools in Hinsdale.
Janice was a member of the International Reading Association and the Illinois Reading Council. She was the social chair of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at Drake University. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Naperville.
She was an avid reader, shopper, traveler and animal lover. She enjoyed her friends and family and was always the "life of the party."
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert; her children, John and Diana;
her father, Irving W. Woolf of Glen Ellyn; three brothers, Dr. Irving A. (Elsie) Woolf of Maple Grove, MN, Dr. Alan (Linda) Woolf of Melrose, MA, and Paul (Rebecca) Woolf of Oak Ridge, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, from 4-9 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at 11:00 A.M. at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
