Janet Lynn Sweeney

Janet Lynn Sweeney, age 82, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 7, 2026. She was born January 29, 1944 in Ferndale, Michigan to Rev. Marvin & Margery Turner. Her pastor father ministered in that town throughout her early school years, and when she was entering high school the family moved to New Philadelphia, Ohio where she completed her high school education.

She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1961 to attend the Moody Bible Institute where she met her husband to be, Mark Sweeney. They were married in 1964 and moved to California where Mark was pursuing a graduate degree. During those years Janet used her business knowledge to work in several insurance companies and gain the experience she would need to later pursue her office management positions in a variety of public schools and other ministries in Wheaton, Illinois including Wheaton Academy, the Sunny Ridge Family Center and the World Evangelical Alliance.

As her two sons, Douglas and Jonathan grew and entered school Janet worked in the Wheaton public schools and in several other ministry organizations in Wheaton. Janet and husband Mark later moved to Dallas and Nashville for work positions, and then in 2001 they together founded a successful book publishing and author representation agency in which Janet and her husband developed a variety of successful authors. There, and later in Naples, Florida and finally in Carol Stream, Illinois they worked on either side of a massive desk in developing award winning authors and their books. And for many years Janet has been known as a driving force in the field of Christian publishing.

Janet is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mark, her sons Dr. Douglas (Wilma) Sweeney and Jon (Michal Woll) Sweeney; her grandchildren Clelia Sweeney, Joseph (Naina) Sweeney, David (Stephanie) Sweeney, Anastasia Woll, Sima Woll; and her sister Gail (Bill) Berghoff.

She was preceded in death by her grandson Joel; her twin sister Joyce (the late Randall) Viers; and her parents.

A visitation will be held Monday, June 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Wheaton, IL 60187. A private burial will be held at Millburn Cemetery in Old Mill Creek, IL.
