Janet O. Edwards, age 87, a longtime resident of Wheaton, IL, died suddenly, as a result of a stroke, on August 21, 2012 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born on November 7, 1924 in Chicago to Fred L. and Marie Ockerlund.
Jan attended Roald Amundsen High School in Chicago until her family moved to the western suburbs, where she graduated from Wheaton Community High School. It was there that she met John T. 'Jack' Edwards, who she married after college. She went to Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, graduating after three years with a dual degree in chemistry and economics. While in college, she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. After college she worked as a chemist for the American Dental Association in Chicago. Later she worked as a bookkeeper for several Wheaton area businesses.
She enjoyed vacationing with family. Her favorite place was Door County, WI.
She is survived by her children, Tom Edwards of Lake Geneva, WI, and Barbara (Greg) Lindquist of Naperville; two grandchildren, Kristen Lindquist of Charlotte, NC and Sara Lindquist of Naperville, one brother, Fred (Jonnie) L. Ockerlund Jr., one niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1992, and her parents.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 P.M. at Gary United Methodist Church, just across the street.
