Janet S. Cederquist, age 91, a resident of Wheaton for 45 years, died on Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born June 17, 1924 in Buffalo, New York to Paul and Mildred Smith.
Janet attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she was a member of the Sweet Adeline's Chorus. She married David O. Cederquist in August of 1947, after his service in WWII. They moved to East Aurora, New York where they began their family of five children. After a series of moves, they settled their family in Wheaton in 1969. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, where she was a part of the Care Team Ministry.
Janet did a lot of volunteer work for her church library, Wheaton Historical Society, Central DuPage Hospital and the Wheaton Welcome Wagon to name a few.
She enjoyed the theater and was a member of the Chicago Art Institute. She also enjoyed cross stitch, giving many of her works away. Janet was an avid reader and enjoyed swapping book titles with family, friends and the Book Club to which she belonged.
She is survived by her five children, Lars (Victoria), Chris, Ellen (Mike) Hobart, Kurt (Carol), and Nancy (Tim Kough); eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David, her parents and sister, Nancy Krehbiel.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 13, at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton, corner of Jefferson and Ellis. Interment is private at Wheaton Cemetery.
