Janet Frances Baker, (nee Cristadoro), 87, of Lisle, IL, formerly of Garden City, NY, passed away on Sunday, July 29 at her home surrounded by her loving family and devoted caregiver, Diana.
Janet was born in Jamaica, NY on September 24, 1919. She was an honors graduate of both Jamaica High School and Bucknell University. At Bucknell, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
She was married to Frederick W. Baker, also of Jamaica, NY and a graduate of Dartmouth College, for over fifty years. They raised their family in Garden City, NY and after his passing Janet moved to Lisle, IL to be near her youngest son and his family.
Janet devoted her adult life to various volunteer organizations in both Garden City and Lisle. She pioneered a program to have residents teach English as a second language to employees at her retirement community, The Devonshire. She served as President of the residents' board for many years. Janet lived at The Devonshire for fifteen years, and was universally loved and admired by both residents and staff for her quiet leadership, her friendliness and her selfless, cheerful spirit!
Janet is survived by her children, Bradford (Gayla) Baker of Lake Jackson, TX, Nancy (Dave) Stump of Vero Beach, FL and Andrew (Renee) Baker of Palatine, IL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Chris and Scot Baker of Texas, Lynn and Jill Rosen of Colorado and Anne and Claire Baker of Illinois.
A private service will be held in Lisle, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Advocate Hospice, 1441 Branding Ave., Suite 200, Downers Grove, IL 60515.
