Jane Cerny, age 91, a resident of Windsor Park, in Carol Stream, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 7, 2017. She was born November 7, 1925, in St. Louis, to Harry and Julia Hixson.

She was raised in St. Louis, and graduated from Rosati-Kain High School. She met her husband, George Cerny, on a blind date, and they were married after his military service, on August 30, 1947. They started a home in Cicero, and then raised their five children in Berwyn. She was an active volunteer in her children's activities and schooling, until 1976, when she re-entered the work force, employed in clerical and retail sales, and she retired from Kohl's department store. In retirement, she volunteered at Central DuPage Hospital for over 20 years, until she was 89 years old.

Jane was an expert seamstress, and enjoyed knitting and needlework. She and George enjoyed traveling the U.S. and abroad. She was a perennial Cubs fan, though raised in St Louis, and was very pleased when they finally won the World Series in 2016.

Jane was a selfless individual, putting others' needs before hers, and tirelessly making sure that their needs were met.  Those who had the privilege of knowing her were blessed by her friendly demeanor and desire to serve.

Jane is survived by her children, Eileen (Robert) Sejnost, Peggy Starr, Pat (Don) Keplinger, Mary Jo (Bill) Witnik and John (Karen) Cerny, 8 grandchildren: Amy, Scott, Christine, Ryan, Melissa, Megan, Katie, and Jack, 3 great- grandchildren: Robbie, Liam and Paul, and 2 step-grandchildren, John and Peggy.

She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, brother, Richard and sister, Eileen.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Windsor Park. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 until the time of service.
