James C.
Walbert
October 19, 1926 – February 4, 2025
James C. Walbert, age 98, a resident of Wheaton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia to James D. Walbert and Cecil Drake. James graduated from Batavia High School in 1944. He was drafted into the Navy in 1945 serving in Mississippi and Guam. He was in the reserves in 1951 during the Korean War in Japan. After being in the military he began working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad where he started as a ticket agent and eventually became a programmer. He worked for the railroad until 1989. He then worked at Amoco Research for 16 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Rachelle (David) DeFreest of Wheaton, and his grandson, Adam DeFreest, of Gallatin, TN, his sister, Juneve Mifflin, of Zion, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther L. Walbert, of 63 years, and his brother, Clement Walbert. He was a faithful member of College Church. He was a prayer warrior and spent hours praying for the persecuted church and missionaries.
Services will be held privately.
