James F. Mikes, age 83, a resident of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Bloomingdale, died Wednesday, January 16, at home. He was born September 11, 1924 in Chicago.
Jim's family and faith were important in his life. He is a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy. He owned a construction company, Mikes Construction, and built residential homes and commercial buildings throughout the western suburbs of Chicago. He was a member of Christ Church of Oak Brook.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucy; eight children, Jim, Judy O'Halloran, Joy (Emil "Nick") Heidkamp, Jay (Karen), Jeanne (Frank) Gooby, Jill Taylor, Joe (Kathy), and Jerry (Sue); 19 grandchildren, Jason (Heather) and Chris, Kyle, Ryan, and Sean, Emil (Kim) and Rebecca, Daniel, Zach, Emily, Josh, and Peter, Matt, Scott, and Mark, Shannon, Jenna, and Tara, and Elizabeth; his great-granddaughter, Riley; his brother, Frank (Loretta); and his daughter-in-law, Cathy.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff; two sons-in-law, Paul Taylor and Charles O'Halloran; two brothers, John and Art; and two sisters, Irma and Georgianna.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 19, from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 A.M. at Christ Church of Oak Brook, York and 31st Street, in Oak Brook. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Roselle.
