James
Marocchi
July 21, 1956 – April 9, 2020
James "Jim" Marocchi, age 63, a resident of Carol Stream, Illinois passed on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at home in Covenant Living at Windsor Park. He was born July 21, 1956 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Andrew and Anne Marocchi. He was raised in the Mount Lebanon township, where he graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School.
Jim went on to graduate from Bradley University with a degree in Engineering and earned his Master's in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. He started his career at GTE Automatic Electric in Northlake, IL as a Hardware Engineer. It was there he met Kathryn Hewing and they were married on September 10, 1983, in Winfield. From there he worked for Rockwell International as a Network Engineer and then joined Motorola Solutions as a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff until his retirement. Jim's contribution to the telecommunications world is evidenced by the 21 patents he held both in the US and internationally.
He enjoyed golf, traveling with his family, and cheering on all the Pittsburgh sports teams. The self-proclaimed "weather nut" tracked storms, recorded rain and snow measurements, and loved to share his meteorology-related photos with friends and family. Jim loved spending time outdoors camping, riding his bike locally on the weekends, to work, and participating in the Hilly Hundred in Bloomington, Indiana.
He is survived by Kathryn Marocchi; his two children, Brittany Marocchi of Bartlett, and Jason Marocchi of Naperville; and his brothers, John Marocchi of Hilliard, Ohio and Paul Marocchi of DeLand, Florida.
The family wishes to give a heart-felt thank you for the team at Covenant Living at Windsor Park. Their friendship and care for Jim throughout his time there was exceptional.
