IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Wilson
Ewing, Iii
April 4, 1935 – November 21, 2022
James Wilson Ewing III, age 87, of Roseville, MN and formerly of Wheaton, IL went home to Jesus on Monday, November 21, 2022. He was born on April 4, 1935 in Oak Park, IL to James and Jessie Ewing.
James (Jim) was a graduate of Wheaton College and after graduating married his childhood sweetheart Edith Apel on June 22, 1957. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged as First Lieutenant MSC-USAR in December 1964. James was the pension fund manager of Suburban Teamsters of Northern Illinois Pension Fund until he took an early retirement to care for his beloved Edith. Edith passed away in 2008 after 51 years of marriage.
Because Edith was handicapped with Multiple Sclerosis, Jim did the family cooking, laundry and shopping for decades. He pushed Edith in her wheelchair to church every Sunday morning at Evangel Baptist Church in Wheaton in all kinds of weather.
Jim was known for his kindness and acts of service to his family and his community. He pitched in and did whatever he could wherever he saw a need. He gardened at his church, his home and his children's homes and baked countless loaves of fresh bread weekly for the food pantry at the People's Resource Center of Wheaton, as well as special baked goods for his church community and family.
As a doting grandfather Jim planned fun and educational outings to parks and museums. He loved to read aloud to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He had a knack for falling asleep anywhere and had a great sense of humor. Jim was a lifelong learner who read the Wall Street Journal daily and was always interested in the world around him.
Jim is survived by his three children, Jim Ewing of Aurora, IL, Janet (Andrew) Carlson of Roseville, MN, and Catherine (Honbiu) Yu of Winfield, IL, six grandchildren, Benjamin, Rebeccah and Jessie Carlson, James Ewing Jr., and Ellis and Nathan Yu, five great-grandchildren, Chelsi Kramer, Stephon and Kaylani Carlson, Ava and AJ Ewing and his sister Jessie Nehlsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edith, and his sister Dorothy Longnecker.
Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
