James R. Adair, age 86, a resident of Wheaton, IL, for 53 years, died Saturday, March 21, at home. He was born February 2, 1923 in Asheville, NC.
Jim was an editor at Scripture Press Publications for more than 50 years. He was the editor of "Power Papers" which was regularly handed out at Sunday Schools across the nation. He wrote ten books, including "M.R. DeHaan: The Life Behind the Voice", and "Surgeon on Safari" (with Dr. Paul Jordan), and "The Man from Steamtown". He also edited the Pacific Garden Mission News monthly paper for more than 50 years. While with the mission, he also wrote "The Old Lighthouse" (a history of the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago, IL). He was an elder at Wheaton Bible Church where he also taught Jr. High Sunday School. He was an avid golfer and bowler.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia; two daughters, Mary and Martha Adair of Wheaton; and four Maltese grand-dogs and one Yorkie, Aspen, Snowball, Daisy, Callie, and Gracie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sueanna Adair.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 26, at 11:00 A.M. at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave., West Chicago, IL 60185. Interment is private at Wheaton Cemetery.
