John V. "Jack" O'Brien, age 59, a resident of Elgin, Illinois died early Sunday morning, December 23, 2018 at Journey Care Hospice Center in Barrington, Illinois after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Chicago on March 20, 1959 to John and Toni O'Brien.
Jack worked diligently as a Project Manager for his entire career, most recently at Chicago Doorways in Elmhurst, Illinois over the last 14 years. On December 21, 1991 he married Mary Klages and was proud to raise three children, Katie, Tim and Megan. The family enjoyed trips to Colorado and hiking in the mountains as often as they could.
Throughout his life, Jack was active in the churches he attended and served as an usher faithfully which was a privilege and joy for him. Jack has been a member of Chicago Tabernacle Church for the last eight years and served with passion even during his illness.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary; his three stepchildren, Katie Klages, Tim Klages and Megan (Scott) Speare; his one-month old grandson, Samuel James; mother, Toni O'Brien; brothers, Gary and Tim (Jean Ann) O'Brien; sisters, Sharon (David) Chow and Jennifer (Tony) Rondinella; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John O'Brien.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 29th from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at Chicago Tabernacle , 3231 N. Cicero Avenue, Chicago, IL. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Al Toledo officiating. Interment will be private. There is limited parking in the lot right next to the church for handicapped or families with small children. All other parking will be about a block and a half away in Lot A and there will be shuttle service. Lot A can be found at 4661 W School Street. School Street is one block north of the church. Look for the signs or ask the parking attendants at church.
