Irene R. Spicer, age 100, a resident of Wheaton since 1942, died peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2013. She was born on May 18, 1913 to Adolph and Elfriede Rauhut in Chicago.

Irene attended grade school at First St. John Lutheran Church and School in Chicago. Alter high school she attended secretarial school and went on to Work at a Chicago Real Estate firm. She met Edward Spicer at a family wedding and they were married in September of 1936. After moving to Wheaton she held Several part time jobs including Rystrom's Jewelry Store in Glen Ellyn and Prince Castle Ice Cream Shop in Wheaton. She was also active in several neighborhood clubs.

She and Ed joined St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton in 1949. At church she has been active in many
ways including the choir, altar guild, the Ladies Afternoon Circle and the JOY group. She also taught
Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years. She loved to travel, and she and her husband
made several trips to Europe and Hawaii.

She is survived by three children, Bonnie (John) Priebe of Maryland, Tadd (Carol) Spicer of Arizona, and
Diane (John) Hodson of Belvidere, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in March of 1987 and a daughter, Joyce Spicer, in
January of 2013.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4 at St. John Lutheran Church, 410 N. Cross St.,
Wheaton from 10 to ll a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment Will be at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.
