Obituary

Irene Christine (Gaedeke) Koehler, ninety-nine, died on Monday, February 22, 2010 at home in Wheaton. She was born Jan 17, 1911 in Monroe, N.Y. and graduated from Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center School of Nursing in 1933. As a student she enjoyed watching from her dorm room window the building of the George Washington Bridge and the Empire State Building. After attaining her RN degree she and her husband, Everett, lived for 20 years in the towns of Ashby, MA. and Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. and for thirty years in Frederick, MD. She was a public health nurse in New York and was school nurse in Ashby, MA from 1958-1965. She was later a real estate broker in Westchester County, N.Y. She moved to Wheaton in 2005.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Everett Koehler, her
daughter, Christine Hartz , her parents and a sister, Flora Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter, Edith Williams (Bud) of Wheaton, her son, Paul Koehler (Debbie) of Atlanta, GA, her brother, George Gaedeke and five grandchildren; Noelle Hogan (Greg) of Buena Vista, Co., Dawn Dwyer (Kevin) of Atlanta, GA, Nate Williams (Ginny) of Groveland, MA, Cameron Williams (Christine) of Wheaton, IL and Travis Koehler of Atlanta, GA. She also has seven great grandchildren, Aly, Aja, Jacqueline, Seth, Elsa, Juliette and Samuel.

While in Wheaton she attended College Church but was a 25 year member of the First Baptist Church in Frederick, MD.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 27, at 5:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 5 p.m.
